Linux - How to check the total size of a directory

I want to check the total size of a directory including its files. How can I do in linux from command line?

You can use du command to get the size of the directory.

du -hs /path/to/directory

E.g.

root@Lenovo-G510:~$ du -hs Documents
3.5G    Documents
