By default, all external links in the discussion of Vanilla forums open in the same tab. As a result, users leave the website and spend only a few seconds on the website. Is there any way to open the external links in a new tab or window?

A couple of Vanilla forums plugins force external links to open in a new tab/window. One of them is Link Out 1.0.1 . Here are the steps you need to follow:

• Download the plugin from Vanilla forums' website.
• Unzip the plugin file and move/copy it to the "plugins" folder of the Vanilla forums installation.
• Login to your forum as Admin, go to Dashboard -> Settings -> Addons -> Plugins
• Search for the plugin you just moved to the "plugins" folder and turn it on.

Now all external links will open in the new window/tab.
