Table Cell borders disappear when copying from spreadsheet to google document

I want to copy a table from MS xls (spreadsheet) to google doc with all cell borders, but google doc removes the borders. I tried to apply borders in google doc, but it did not work. How can I keep cell borders in google doc?

To keep the cell borders, copy the table from the spreadsheet and paste into a word document. 

You can then paste that table from the word document into your google document. This way all the properties of the spreadsheet table will be preserved.
